Updates // Our new flatpack breadbasket

The Avva Felt Breadbasket is made of 100% wool felt and extends the core theme of complementary angles consistent with our entire Avva series. Designed by Josh Jakus (Berkeley, CA) and made exclusively for Teroforma by Buffalo Felt (Buffalo, NY), the breadbasket ships flat; then, when two tabs are tucked into slots, easily transforms into a gracefully curved bread server. The thickness and friction of the felt surfaces keep the assembled version upright, even when the front is opened for access to the contents. It will hold four bagels or equivalent size breads. After the meal, it can store flat or remain assembled and displayed as a decorative object. Available for Spring in soft white, spring green, deep brown and quiet grey, with an Autumn palette to be offered later in the year.

Just a quick note to let you know that Chi Chi Home in Canada has decided to do some good with the last set of Whisky Stones available in North America this season. The team at Chi Chi have decided to auction off their last set of Whisky Stones (at least until January when we ship them some new ones!) and donate the proceeds to a local charity. As they rightly point out, there are many worthy causes out there that need some help at this time of year. We applaud the gesture and hope you will let your last minute shopping do some good too.

Previously known as h(y)r collective, the Vancouver, BC based trio of Ryan Willms, Owen Parrot and Simon Roe have recast their efforts into a fantastic new magazine concept called Inventory. In their own words:

“We value products and clothing for more than just their appearance, admiring how they’re made, by whom, and why. It’s through this passion and attention to detail that we view the things in our lives from a different perspective. With a hunger and willingness to learn, we search for the rare, unknown and new, while always remembering tradition and the past.”

The video above is the first they have posted under the Inventory name, and I think it says it all.

As early supporters of Teroforma, the guys in Vancouver tracked us down for an interview earlier this year. It became quickly apparent that we share a central conviction - knowing the story of the people and processes behind the product mean appreciating it even more. With a marketplace full of companies selling the least offensive alternative at the lowest possible price, it is heartening for us to know that there are others out there who place the same kind of premium on thoughtfulness and craftsmanship as we do. We also know a bit about shooting for the top with a very small team. Any day, it ain’t easy - but to make it look this good with the first issue is an amazing achievement. So Happy Birthday to Inventory from Teroforma. Do yourself a favor and check out the next big thing.

We designed the Whisk(e)y Lover Set with just this type of occasion in mind. Our good friend Maria Lintott is a super-talented designer and ceramist. Having worked with her a few years back to develop the patterns for our Oyyo Petal and Avva Fern bone china collections, we are huge fans of her talent and are overjoyed that her work has recently caught the attention of the style mavens at Daily Candy London. Working from her Hertford, England studio, Maria brings together influences from both town and country in a beautifully varied collection of fine bone china mugs and bowls. She is one to watch - and her recently launched website is one to check out.

Perspectives // First touch of color

After an amazingly hectic summer - evidenced by the near total neglect of our beloved blog - it seemed like the right idea to tie our new resolution to get back to writing with the first glimpses of fall color.
